Context

Starting in 2020, I decided to share my knowledge of Figma with the design community. I created a workshop called “Figmatelier” and invited participants to discover what I had learned through my experiments. My sessions focused on pushing the boundaries of Figma in terms of animation and interaction.

During the workshops, hosted on Discord, I explained my creative process and shared various tips and tricks for animating and creating seamless high-fidelity prototypes.

Each session brought together 25 designers with diverse levels of expertise and familiarity with Figma.

Basic to Complex Animations

One of my earliest workshops focused on introducing participants to basic animations, starting with the fundamentals of creating simple movement, often referred to as the “walking process.”

The goal was to help designers grasp the core principles of animation in Figma while building their confidence in using the tool for dynamic projects.

As I gained experience and feedback from the community, I began exploring more complex animation techniques to push Figma to its limits. This led me to experiment with character animations, where I delved into intricate details such as fluid movements, timing adjustments, and interactive transitions.

These sessions challenged participants to think beyond static designs and encouraged them to see Figma as a versatile platform for storytelling and creative expression through animation.

Here are some examples.

Dark Patterns & UX Devil

For a special workshop, I delved into the theme of Dark Patterns & UX Devil, drawing inspiration from Stranger Things and the current state of user navigation on the internet. The goal was to shed light on both bad and good UX practices while challenging participants to create intentionally poor user interfaces as a way to better understand the impact of design choices.

The workshop brought together 30 designers, and I invited four experienced mentors to join as co-facilitators, enriching the discussions and providing valuable insights. To kick things off, I designed a quick prototype example that served as inspiration and a starting point for the participants’ creativity. Together, we explored the mechanics of deceptive design and reflected on how to use UX principles ethically to improve user experiences.
